Type of a scam Home Improvement
A white pick up truck with 3 or 4 men drove up to our house (on 4 acre property) and approached my husband, who was outside.
I came out of the house and when I was noticed, the one man that had been standing out of the truck introduced himself as Ron and that they were working in the neighbourhood on a neighbour’s property laying ashpalt. He said that since they were in the neighbourhood with all of their equipment, and it was near the end of the season that he was willing to give us a deal of $3.00/square foot to repave our driveway (on 4 acre property). He had quoted my husband $25,000.00 and that there was no need for a deposit, they would come and do it in good faith. My husband asked for a written quote with price breakdown, he said that they did not have time for that and that they were in the area only for a day or so more so needed to know right away.
My husband told him that we would think about it. He said he needed to know right away, and my husband replied it was a lot of money to decide at the spur of the moment. He gave his business card to me and asked us to call soon. I used their business card to look for information – and the website: www.maplepaving.com states it is a company in Ontario. I went on ScamPulse.com and could not find any mention of Maple Paving for Calgary and area. I googled the address on the card, and it is an apartment building. During my search I found an article about paving scams happening in the Edmonton and Red Deer areas last year so I reported this to the police
