Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
Received apparent "secret shopper" assignment letter in mail, claiming to be from a ‘Strategic Reflections’ in Las Cruces, NM. Included a "check" for $3,750.80. Detailed instructions asked recipient to purchase three money orders for $1,000 each and mail them back to an address to be provided later. Consumer went so far as to deposit the "check" in her bank before contacting BBB, who advised her that this is a common "check cashing" scam, and she should *not* proceed further.
