Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I received a letter today from The State of Louisiana Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections. (I do not have any affiliation with anyone or anything in Louisiana.) The address on the letter is different from the address on the envelope. The letter itself says its from the Division of Probation and Parole in New Orleans. The Letter is addressed to my old last name that was changed 9 years ago. It has a Louisiana home address listed(I have never lived in LA). The letter also states *** *** ***, I don’t know anyone by that name. The letter goes on to list the check amount, a remaining balance and includes the name *** *** The check included has my old last name and my current address. The address of who wrote the check is also different from the envelope and letter. The check number itself is my birthdate which I found very scary.
