Type of a scam Credit Cards
I received 2 separate documents in the mail, and my husband received one, saying that we were rejected for a credit plan with Office Depot and Staples. I also received a voicemail alerting me that someone tried opening an account in my name that might be fraud. I first called Office Depot, who said that they didn’t show that I had applied for a credit card. When I called the number on the paper I received in the mail (888-654-0278), it asked for the reference number, which I entered. Then it asked for my 9 digit social security number, which I did not enter, since this was the scam. I tried also calling the number that was left in the voicemail I received (877-406-5657), and after I did not enter my credit card number, someone (woman) answered the line saying they were the fraud department. They asked for the reference number, which I provided. She said she had to transfer me to another department, but I was then placed on hold for 10 minutes, so I hung up.
