Type of a scam Employment
Received a text message saying she was Mrs. Cassandra Robert, Director of Quality Control and Employee Compliance, she had found my resume on jobgateway.pa.gov and wanted to conduct an online interview via Google Hangout. I was skeptical but joined her conversation. I had already looked up the company online and found it to be in Dubai. I asked if that was where she was and she said no, they were opening up locations in the United States and needed to fill positions in each location. She proceeded to give me job descriptions and asked me a few questions including whether I had specific office equipment in my home office. She said she needed to forward our conversation to the "Head" Department and would get back online in 15-20 minutes. She returned and promptly announced I was hired! Then she proceeded to say she would be sending a check to me via FedEx and I was to go to a vendor whom she would name and buy an Apple laptop and certain software to be installed. She also said working materials and hiring documents including a W-4 would be sent and I was to fill them out and send back immediately. As I suspected, this was a scam to either get my banking or ss#. I messaged Mrs. Robert back to not send the check and discontinue contact with me.
