Type of a scam Tech Support

As I was surfing the net, a message popped up and said I must call the toll free number immediately to get tech support because my computer has been infected and I must take action or else my personal information could get compromised. I couldn’t close the browser and thus had to make the call. They then asked me to authorize access to my computer remotely and then showed how all the programs I have have "stopped" working" and that for $149.99, they can get it fixed. I asked their authenticity and they pointed to a Microsoft Icon and ensured they are "legit." I had to rush my child to a doctor’s appointment so I authorized them my credit card info. On the way to the appt, I called my husband to verify whether such a thing was legit and was informed that it was a scam so I rushed right back home and cancelled the transaction. I also called my credit card company to cancel the card. I also called Sloxsoff back and told them that I will report them to the BBB for their scam practice.
