Type of a scam Tech Support
The internet wasnt working on my xbox. I googled netgear tech support and called the first number that showed up. The person that picked up said to turn on my computer and told me to download a remote access software so they could gain access to my computer. They went into my files on my computer and pulled up my IP address and told me it was hacked, saying there were foreign devices linked to it. They said they needed to clean up the IP address and clean up the computer. Then he said it would cost $140 for a one time fix. I gave them my credit card info and billing address, then they transferred me to a “level 3 specialist” while they were “working on fixing” the issue. The new person tried to sell me yearly subscription services to prevent it from happening again. They convinced me to pay for a 2 year protection service. Then they put me on hold. Then I realized it might be a scam so I hung up and called my bank to try to dispute the transaction. Then the “tech support” company called back and I asked for a refund and they were very rude and said it was my fault but finally said they would refund the money in 7-10 business days. I don’t think that will happen so I am filing this complaint.
