Type of a scam Employment

I applied for several different positions on Indeed when I was searching for work a couple of months ago. I received a message on Indeed that asked me to send a copy of my resume and my desired salary to a direct email address. I didn’t think anything of this as a lot of employers will request that you contact them directly rather than through Indeed. I sent the requested information to the email address and received a reply from an individual stating that the position I originally applied for had been filled, but the company referred me as a possible candidate because he was in search of an executive assistant. The individual provided a job description including the job responsibilities, the amount of pay being offered, more information on the individual himself, and information regarding training. If I wanted to move forward with the job and begin onboarding, I was to reply with more information including how often I preferred to be paid (bi-weekly or weekly), how I wanted to be paid (direct deposit or check), and personal details such as my first and last name, address, and phone number. After replying with all of the requested information, I received a response asking me to purchase blank check paper through Amazon as my first task would be to print checks and send them to other employees in the mail. While I was told this would be my first task as an executive assistant, this turned out to be my only task. The only job responsibilities included printing checks and shipping labels, preparing envelopes to be shipped, then dropping the envelopes off at FedEx. I was asked to purchase supplies such as copy paper, printer ink, and blank check papers to process these checks on a daily basis. After the first two weeks, I inquired with the employer about what information was needed to be paid. I was then told that payment would not be going through on a bi-weekly basis, but now a monthly basis. I was also informed to send my direct deposit information as well as copies of any receipts for supplies purchased that needed to be reimbursed. This information was sent to the employer and I was given a date of when I should expect payment. It is now almost a month after that date and there has still been no payment. When payment for my work and reimbursement for the supplies I purchased did not go through, I stopped doing work. The employer seemed to dodge any questions I had regarding payment/reimbursement and would revert the conversation to ask if I was available to process/send more checks. The employer has now stopped responding to my attempts to reach him and has not yet paid me. He also has not reached out with requests for more work to be done.
