Type of a scam Employment

I received an email from an employee at the graduate college I’m currently enrolled at talking about an employment opportunity. As a college student with student loans, rent, utilities, insurance, etc., any extra money is always helpful. I emailed the guy, *** and he ended up sending me a $3,850 check that obviously did not clear. He told me that I’d get $300 from the check and the other $3,550 was for the guy who came out to put a wrap on my car for advertising. This “job” was just a way to get paid by advertising for the Rugby League World Cup 2021. Obviously it was not a real job. I emailed the employee from my college and he said it was a phishing scam. Thankfully, I caught it before the car “specialist” came out and tried to put a wrap on my car.
