Type of a scam Employment
The “HR Manager” contacted me via email, using the actual Kestrel company’s name & website. The first red flag that I should’ve caught on to was that the HR manager wanted me to contact the “Head of research for Kestrel” Chris Errington through WhatsApp. I did & he did an interview via messenger & this is where I started to get skeptical. But we continued through the interview he sent me questions & I answered them. He sent me a link of the “Company website” & had me look though the website to get a feel of the company. Finally when I wrapped up the questions & about me, he told me that I was considered for the position & if hired could I buy the equipment needed such as a laptop, copier, printer, etc. I said yes, he then asked for my address to mail me a check to purchase the materials needed, I, stupidly, gave it to him. (He also told me that I would be getting a W-2 form and other papers that I had to fill out & mail it back to him for tax purposes). Anyway, 2 days later I received a check of 4K in the mail. Before I received the check I went to further research into the companies website, but searched it on google & the actual company appeared, which looked like the same site that he sent me. Doing more research I came to find out that the real company is located in London (I live in NY). So I emailed the email listed under contacts & asked to speak to their HR manager, I get a email stating that if I had to speak to HR because a guy name George Douglas contacted me about a job that I should ignore it because it’s a Hoax. I am just glad it didn’t escalate any further & that I dug up what I did or else things could’ve got out of hand.
