I had applied for a job posting listed as Office Assistant/ Receptionist. I received a response within a hour. This is a copied and pasted response that was sent via email by a “Michelle Cox”:
Thank you so much for applying for the Office Assistant/ Receptionist position posted on Indeed, you have been shortlisted and offered a job with us. Kindly reconfirm your interest by sending an email to : ( [email protected] ) and also add it to your contact list for more information’s on the job position.

I responded to the email given, and again was replied to within an hour on a Saturday. The email listed Michelle’s working history, which included a long list of non-profit work. And some vague job descriptions. Several red flags went up with some attributes of the description. Such as: not listing an hourly wage or salary, just a weekly amount, not naming the company that was on the original job post, giving no address for the company, and saying that I was already in the running for a job I had applied for yesterday. There were others as well. Here is a copy of that email:

Higginbotham Bros, Inc. is a home building company, and had nothing to do with non-for profits. This was the major red flag that it was a scam- they used a reputable ScamPulse.com listed company to catch applicant’s eyes. I’d also like to note that two days after I applied to the job posting on Indeed, the posting disappeared from the job board. Not a big tip off on its own but with the other indicators it’s something to keep an eye out for.
