I saw an ad on LinkedIn for a secret shopper company. It seemed like easy work, and since it was on LinkedIn it felt legit. I reached out via text and was promptly replied to by a person named Andrew (who is also listed, with pic, on their website) with instructions on an assignment. Fast forward a few days and I get a check in the mail for $998 and a sheet explaining to me to go to various stores, purchase iTunes gift cards in various denominations, and also give feedback on cleanliness, etc. They said to pocket $348 and spend the remaining $650 on cards. I did, shot them over all of the pictures (with stickers peeled off) and receipts as they asked and received confirmation that all was well.
They immediately asked me the next day to go get a cashiers check for $10 made out to Walmart and send it to them, that’s when I felt something was way off. After that, they became almost pushy and quickly mailed out another packet, this time with $2,500!!! They want me to go to 4 different stores and do the same thing as the first time. No mention of Walmart….After this I’m going to the authorities.
