I was looking for a Maine [censored] kitten breeder on the CFA website. A Google ad popped up and I mistook it for a verified breeder in the CFA search results. The kittens were only $400.00. I was tired and not thinking clearly, because this is way too cheap for a Maine [censored] kitten. I messaged the "breeder" through the online form. After thinking about this for a few hours, I realized this was too good to be true. I couldn’t find their exact address on their website and they didn’t have pictures of the kitten’s parents. I searched for reviews of the breeder and couldn’t find any. I did an IP address lookup and found that it was registered in the UK. They site that was selling 12 week old kittens was created in November 2019. (Today is 12/6/19) the next day, I received a text message from Sofie Maine [censored] informing me that they just sent me an email. The email professed lifetime cat care support and advice, vet check, shots, etc. They had some generic questions for me, which I answered. I asked them if I could see the parents, and visit the kitty before picking up. They did not answer my questions. I searched the internet for kitten scams related to Sofie Maine [censored], and didn’t find this exact name, but I did find the message that was sent to me, word for word, posted on other scam prevention sites. Their response to me after I’d answered some questions was also exactly the same as the messages found on these scam prevention sites. I’m a little uncomfortable that this scammer has my email and phone number, but my information has been compromised in so many breaches lately so I suppose it doesn’t matter. I did not give them any specific or pertinent information.
