Type of a scam Tech Support
I had a router which was not working. My cable company (Comcast) recommended I contact the manufacturer, RockSpace. I went to their website, which had a phone number to leave a message and get a return phone call. I was called back. The ‘tech support Lauren" who stated she was located in California, had to remote into my computer to investigate why the router was not working. I allowed her access to my computer as she insisted it was safe and the only way to resolve any issues, which could include viruses. Lauren showed me a list of ‘hundreds’ of IP addresses using my Wi-Fi network. She stated she had to clean my computer of viruses and installed NetGear. She pressured me to purchase 1 year or ‘premium/forever/3 years’ of ‘technical support’ and internet security. She demanded payment via PayPal. The name on the receipt was Prosafe.
After the call, I realized I had been scammed. I attempted to contact RockSpace/Prosafe to ask for a refund, but have not gotten a return call or email. I was very concerned she had downloaded a virus onto my computer.
