Total money lost $299
Type of a scam Phishing
My laptop computer froze on 11/9/2018 and I got a full page, red ,urgent alert screen message to contact the Microsoft phone # listed on my screen. I called this number and got Econosupport , and the person gave me ‘information’ about the reason for this alert.I did ask him why Microsoft would freeze a screen etc , and was given reassurance that their company works with and is designared by Microsoft . Long story short, they had an answer for any question I asked. They took over my computer (hacked) ,gave me price options , and charged me $299.00-to ‘clear up the issues and provide future security.’ I was told my statement/bill would show online as coming from a company named Nexway. Unfortunately, at the time it all made sense..
Less than 24hours later,on 11/10, I sent an email to Nexway- ,canceling, feeling very uncomfortable and having the sense that I’d been hacked.I notified my bank and also sent a message to Microsoft–this, after also taking my computer to Best Buy , and paying for their examination of the laptop. The Geek Squad at Best Buy stated that I had indeed been hacked and compromised, and they performed cleanup and repair.
I expect a full refund for this egregious misconduct. Beware to others, don’t act in the moment when unexpected situations like this occur.!
