Total money lost $300
Type of a scam Tech Support
I called what I thought was Yahoo help for a server issue. I gave them control of my desktop & they said they ran a scan to detect foreign hackers. They said they needed to put an anti hacking program on my machine. I needed to have an EBay or Google card in the amount of $300. Once I purchased it and gave them the card code they said I was fine & free of malicious things. They promised to refund my $300. When I called back today to ask about my refund they said they could only issue it in the amount of $1000, not $300 and I needed to purchase another Google card & give them the code. I then suspected I had been scammed. I told them absolutely not.
It was a Yahoo help address on line. The two people called themselves Ronni Li, 1-833-494-2051 x4091 and John Temble 650-900-5561. I suspect they were ficticious names. I gave them no personal information or credit card number. But, they had access to my hard drive so I will need to have it examined. In the meantime I have my desktop shut down.
