Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I posted an ad on Craig’s list to sell an old flatbed trailer and received a text from the number I gave [(405)294-6440] with instructions to email the information to the persons "wife" ([email protected]). Seemed legitimate at first so I did as asked and started dialog through email about my trailer. The person then proceeded to ask for my home address and phone number so that they could send out a certified check from the "husband’s" company. The check has not arrived yet according to USPS tracking it is still in Allan Park MI. I have attached our entire email correspondents to this complaint in PDF format. Long story short the person wanted me to deduct the cost of the trailer plus a little extra for holding the trailer and then wire the rest to the person named in this complaint (Xaverious Williams). I did a "White Pages" lookup on the phone number and it said that it was a VOIP phone out of Oklahoma. I also attempted to examine the email headers to try and determine where they came from but the only IP addresses in the headers were mine so they must have scrubbed the headers prior to sending the emails. But the person and address in this complaint is where I was supposed to send the "extra money" so I logically assumed that this was the person attempting to scam me considering the certified check also originated from Georgia according USPS tracking number (9405501699320083953814).
