Type of a scam Tech Support

Computer Screen turned bright blue (or red..happened several times) with a message not to turn off the computer or the hard drive would be erased. Since we had not downloaded anything we turned off the computer and restarted it. Hard drive was not affected. Each message that popped up displayed a phone number to call for technical support. I called, thinking it was a scam, and a person answered giving a first name only (each time it was different…"Robert" or "Gregg" or "Phil" etc. saying "so you are having computer problems…" With each call I asked for the name of the company, sometimes for their EIN. After trying to engage me in discussion about my computer I kept asking for the company name and address before I would work with them, and each time they hung up on me. I did a "reverse phone search" and found the address attached to the phone numbers to be (1) a cornfield in South Carolina and (2) someplace called Cukamonga California.
