Type of a scam Phishing

This person contacted me about a car I have for sale on craigslist. Told me he would come buy it if I sent him a report from the site I have referenced. From some research I did this is a scam to steal credit card numbers.

Type of a scam Phishing

This scammer made contact through bbb.org contact form.

Back story: This is very similar to a few phishing attempts I’ve had. They seem to target website designers and the pattern is:

-Making contact saying they have a large budget and need a website

-There is a third party who has all the content

-They are evasive about having any direct human interaction like a phone call or video consultation. There is an excuse such as "I am traveling", "I don’t have time right now but I can talk after the project starts", I’ve gotten the excuse of "I’m in the hospital and in terrible pain, I can only communicate via email…"

-Last, the emails were grammatically incorrect. Small things like not capitalizing "I" when referring to themselves in a sentence. Not capitalizing the first letter of sentences, putting periods, question marks, and quotations in the wrong place, weird phrasing, misspelled words, etc.

The very 1st scammer I encounter, I didn’t get suspicious until we got to the point where I requested a deposit. They didn’t have any common forms of payment (PayPal, cash app, google or apple pay). They then, requested I give them an account number so they can transfer the funds directly to my account. That’s when I knew it was a scam and I reported the email address.

-Back to the current scammer:

I screenshot the conversation and attached it, but I knew the signs immediately after reading their email reply, and that they did not schedule a consultation. The request had a similar format to the previous scam I’ve encountered via email.
