Total money lost $1,855.73
Type of a scam Phishing
I received a letter by Priority Mail 2-Day delivery, with a letter of instructions and a check for $1855.73 to go to the two local Walmart stores and purchase 3 $250.00 gift cards from each and comment on the Walmart employee’s intelligence, how much time they took to serve me, customer service professionalism, helpfulness, and the general cleanliness of the Walmart store. I was then to scrape off the silver linings of all the gift cards, scam both sides, and email it the address of [email protected] When I checked the gift cards the next day all 6 had balances of $0.00.

Initially, On March 15, 2019, at 12:11 p.m.I received a text message with my name completely spelled out, "Hi T???". I did not recognize the number, nor did they say who it was so I ignored it. Then, on March 16, 2019 at 7:01 p.m. I received another text from the same number that was a link to a website (https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=DQSlkWdsW0yxEjajBLZtrQAAAAA…⇄ Once again, I did not recognize, however, I opened the website. It was a link to a job application for a Secret Shopper position that offered me $600 to shop at Walmart without letting anyone know. The form wanted me to fill out the application and include my banking information so they could DIRECT DEPOSIT the $600. I ignored the request and did not/will not fill out that form. Then, again today, Monday, March 18, 2019, I received another text message asking me, "Are you still interested in the Walmart job?..Please fill the applicant form asap..Thanks".
