Type of a scam Tech Support

A warning popped up on my computer screen saying to call a particular number to have the virus removed.

Out of that came the person on the line saying they could wipe the virus out, and put protection on the computer.

The cost was high and I felt helpless as though if I did not pay for it, my computer would not be protected.

Don’t fall for such schemes and have a reliable person who works on computers put security devices on your computer.

I was contacted by a "David Shark" on Friday 9/21/18 to renew my subscription to a tech support plan. I am not computer savvy, and believed that I had to renew, or cancel my subscription, so I called him back on Saturday 9/22/18. I was offered the lifetime package with a discount for $1000. I purchased that and put part of it on credit card, and part of it was to be paid by check. On Monday 9/24/18 I was alerted to this scam by Apple because the purchase of a $500 gift card to Ventura Consultancy Inc was suspicious to them, so they alerted me and cancelled the order. I then spent a good part of my day stopping the payments from my accounts. I’m just lucky that I didn’t lose any money, but I’m sure that others won’t be that lucky.
