Type of a scam Phishing
While googling the means to obtain a replacement social security card, a website came up that appeared to be an arm of the Social Security Admin. I filled out the forms, including my former and current names, address, social security number and credit card number. I was charged $39 and sent an email telling me the next steps to take. Soon thereafter I spoke with Social Security and they verified that there was no fee for obtaining a new card, and that the site not theirs. I tracked down a telephone line for the scammer and they "cheerfully" cancelled my charge. But they have all my personal information and I feel certain that was the real intent for the outset. Feeling pretty stupid.
