Type of a scam Phishing
I received a telephone call at 10:32 AM Thursday morning, Feb. 25, 2016, from toll free caller number 1 (844) 487-2886. She said she represented a company called "U.S. Enrollment Group" telling me that I have $X,XXX amount of debt and would I like to know about their "Debt Elimination Program?" I asked some questions and it was not debt elimination; but rather debt consolidation. She asked how much I pay on my debts per month and I told her. I talked to her for several minutes, as I was seriously considering working with her company. However, I was busy at the time, so I asked if her company had a website I could look at later, when I had more time. She dodged the question; so I asked again, and….CLICK. She hung up, so comment, no good-bye. I called the ScamPulse.com number and the ScamPulse.com Customer Service Representative informed me that there is a debt consolidation company called "U.S. Enrollment Group" in California. However, I think this caller was piggy-backing on that name to commit financial fraud by setting up phony debt collection services, where they keep the payments themselves; or to "fish" for personal information to commit identify theft. It is suspicious for a telemarketer to hang up after I had expressed interest in utilizing the company’s services – because I asked if the company had a website. That is why I suspect the caller was attempting to commit financial fraud or identity theft, by piggy-backing on the name of a legitimate company. I was almost scammed.
