Type of a scam Government Grant

I am 66 years old. I was contacted by a high school friend via messenger. I have known him for over 50 years. He told me about a federal grant. It was called the 2019 United Nations compensation commission Grants Program. He said he sent them $3000 and he received $150,000 grant. He works for the government in Virginia and he was valedictorian of our class. He connected me with agent David E. Edwards, ###-###-####. Mr. Edwards told me to send $3000 to *** ***, *** *** St, Spearman, TX 79081. I went to my bank, PNC. The teller denied the request and would not let me withdraw the money as it was a scam. I insisted it wasn’t and went to Civility Central Savings and Loan, a small bank in Delaware, OH. I withdrew the money. I mailed hundred dollar bills in a plain brown envelope which I got at the post office. It was Friday so I did same day delivery with no signature requirement. So they would get it on Saturday. I did not tell the postal worker I was mailing cash. Then he wanted a photo ID. After I sent it he wanted $10,000 for insurance. He said the director would not release the money without it. This is when I knew I had been scammed. I am still playing along. I told him I had an accident and could not walk until early next week. That is when I told him I would try to get the $10,000 for insurance. He sends text messages, and his English isn’t very good. I was so proud of getting this money. My friend kept saying it wasn’t a scam. I am so embarrassed I did this!
