Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
Scammer contacted me through school email offer secret shopper opportunity. 3 days later I received a U.S. priority mail express envelope containing a check for $1,980 dollars and a letter directing me to deposit the check and complete the task within 24 hours to receive an additional amount. The task directs me to purchase gift cards from Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Apple or any other store (letter says to use cash when purchasing Apple GC). The letter then directs me to scratch the back of the cards to reveal codes and send a clear picture of each card along with the receipt to the provided email address. I saw a report about someone scammed like this where they actually deposited the check and completed the task a few days later the check found out the check was conterfiet and went after the customer for the money…
