A voice message was left on my mobile phone with a time stamp of Saturday, March 22, 2019, at 2:58 PM (CDT). The recording featured a male, computerized voice that delivered the following message: "This call is from the department of social security administration. The reason you have received this phone call from our department is to inform you that we just suspend [sic] your social security number because we found some suspicious activity so if you want to know about this case just press one thank you." I was suspicious about the day and time of the call, the "press one" instruction and the absence of any call-back information in the message, and the poor grammar and inflection of the computerized voice. Given that no return phone number was associated with this message I chose to call the real SSA to confirm that there’s no problem with my SSN. I did not reply or call back to the number associated with the message.
