Thabo misrepresented its position as a licensed tech support for a tech product I was not able to install. Thinking they were legitimate, I gave them access to my laptop. From there they reported numerous security problems with my computer and claimed that these security issues were the reason that I was not able to use my new device. At that point they began suggesting fees for protection, with special benefits for senior citizens. All a scam! It wasn’t until I pressed them on the cost of the original fix did they give me a price for that which they later doubled. By this time I had checked with a known technical support who advised me that this was a scam. He also warned me that if I refused to pay the amount and chose to turn off my laptop that Thabo was able to prevent me from turning on the laptop again and I would be unable to access my files. I agreed to the payment but immediately changed all of my passwords. And…my new device is still not working properly.
