Type of a scam Tech Support
I needed to call Apple to get my son’s phone fixed, the screen was cracked. We have applecare insurance for it. I googled applecare phone number and dialed the first number that came up. The man answered the phone and said "applecare support". I explained my problem. He told me the phone was covered. My son’s phone is an iphone 7. He offered to let me get an iphone 8 for $150 or iphone 10 for $400. He said it included another 2 years of applecare. He said someone would come to the house the next day with the new phone and transfer the data from the old phone to the new phone. This sounded too good to be true. Then he said I could only pay with itunes cards. He told me to get $400 in itunes cards and call him back with the card numbers. He said I couldn’t use a credit card. Obviously then I realized it was a scam and I hung up. He told me his name was Carlos Johnson, even though he had an Indian accent. He gave me a case # and extension number.
