Type of a scam Tech Support

Popup appears on computer screen. Audio and video message states "do not shut down your computer or it will crash; call 1-888-895-4785 immediately." Person says your computer is under cyber attack. Your security has been breached and your identity has been compromised. Person says for $2000.00, they will provide lifetime security and advanced encryption to restore your computer to original working order. Person then performs a "diagnostic scan" (takes about one hour) and then calls to say your computer is now secure and your identity is not compromised. Person requests that you call every thirty days for a "device health check." The outcome of this experience was that I paid to have my computer infected with ransomware and then had to pay a legitimate technician to "uninfect" my computer. I have additional names and phone numbers: Rachel Zane (manager), Mike Hunt, Mark Wilson, and Henry Thompson (customer experience managers); 1-888-448-0182, 1-888-448-0183, 1-866-423-0874. Alternate website: http://onestoptechnicalhelp.com and alternate e-mail address [email protected] help.com Although the service claims to be based in Columbus, Ohio, 365 Parsons Ave and 1660 Parsons Ave, I was billed a $30.00 international transaction fee by my credit company for funds being paid to "Support Techniques" located in Brisbane, Australia.
