Type of a scam Online Purchase
I was shopping for a toy via Google search. Once I finished narrowing down my choice I started looking to see where I could purchase it from. I was spending about $180-$200 on this item. An online store kept popping up that specialized in children’s outdoor recreational products and toys. On this site it was a little cheaper, appeared to be a retailer within the US and offered free shipping.
Nothing flagged me that it was not a legit business until I completed my PayPal transaction. As soon as it completed the name and email did not match anything on the website. I got suspicious. I googled the email attached to the PayPal merchant and it came up with no hits except a website in Romania. Alarm bells. And that email was no where on the website I purchased from.
I googled the merchant name. No hits within the United States.
I searched for server location of the website…it was in Russia.
So, I immediately filed a fraud report with PayPal for them to check it out.
They came back within 6 hrs telling me they confirmed the transaction was fraud and refunded my money.
While I was waiting to hear from PayPal I did contact the website via their contact us posted email ([email protected]) and received no response.
I then Google mapped their business address in TN.
It came up as nothing in the middle of a modest residential neighborhood in Tennessee.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE
IT IS A SCAM
Thankfully I looked at my receipt when I made the transaction and noticed the discrepancy. And I did check the website against scam alerts prior to purchase.
Nothing came up to flag it.
So, I am posting this hoping to save someone else the trouble today has been.
Thankfully I used PayPal AND got my transaction reversed.
