Type of a scam Utility
Our company’s office recieved a call that came up on the caller ID as State of Tennessee. When I took the call the voice on the other end was a man with a heavy accent which sounded indonesian. He said he was working in collections for MLGW. He said our utilities have not been paid for two months which I knew was incorrect because I do the billing for our company and all of our bills are paid current. The man said a technician was on his way to disconnect our utilites and that I should call 800.485.4788 right away to pay the account current. I hung up with him and instead of calling the 800 number he gave me to call I called our local MLGW number just to make sure all is ok and none of our payments were lost in the mail, etc. When I got MLGW on the line the message said that MLGW is closed today in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. I then Googled the 800 number the man gave me and it came up instantly as a scam which has already been reported to the BBB. I called our ScamPulse.com rep and told her what had happened and she advised me to report the scam so others could be on guard if they receive a call similar to this.
