Type of a scam Phishing
This number called a couple days ago, a male with a thick accent said he was from Oracle and asked for a name I didn’t recognize. Then asked for me by name. When asked what this was about, said something about ‘tickets to the convention’. I said ‘no thank you’ and hung up.
Just called a few minutes ago, I thought the number looked familiar but couldn’t place it at first. A female with an indian accent said she was with Solarwinds. I happen to do business with Solarwinds, and verified my email address. Then she asked about my title, and hung up when I said ‘Yes’.
I looked online and the number displayed on the CallerID is MIT’s directory assistance number, so they’re faking their CallerID. Also, this scam is used to record you saying ‘yes’ and use the recording to justify something you didn’t actually agree to.
FYI I answer ‘no’ to "Did the victim lose money?" but the call just occurred so it may be a while before any suspicious charges or subscriptions occur.
