Type of a scam Online Purchase

A "Top 3 Dating Website" article appeared in my FB feed. I chose SilverSingles as it was top rated, and paid for their least expensive package ($75.00 for three months). Immediately, their web site accessed my phone photos and pulled a random pic out as my Profile Picture. I tried to correct it, but was unable. I then went to view picks the site had chosen for me. Photos were all blurred. I sent a help desk note asking when the profiles would be clear but never received a response. Starting to ‘feel funny’ about the whole transaction, I called their customer service number to cancel. I was told I would have to cancel from my computer. When I tried to do that, and called for support, I was told by their customer service rep that red flags had been raised on my account from activity in Mexico. I haven’t been out of the country in two decades. I was then told that their firewall and security team would need to review the hack before restoring my SilverSingles membership…so that I could cancel it! AND, they would need a COPY OF MY CHECK to do so. I immediately advised I would be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau as well as the Oklahoma State Attorney General.
