Type of a scam Phishing
got a call from 901-233-9708 on 1-25-16 stating a Lt. Ryan Abernathy from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Dept. was calling to tell me I missed reporting for jury duty selection and now had 2 warrants out for my arrest- one for Failure to Appear and one for Contempt of Court. I was to bring bond money in the form of a Kroger re-charge card plus the receipt [kept stressing receipt] to the SCS office downtown to clear these warrants from my name. Wanted to know my cell phone number [he called house #] and when would I have the $990.00 secured. Also, if no cell phone [ I repliedI had no cell phone] was there a pay phone near by ? "Could I go to the ATM for the money?"…He was "trying to protect me from being arrested on these charges as he believed I did not intentionally fail to show up for Jury Duty selection" . Will call back today to arrange final process of ‘clearing my record" ! What a scam!!
