Dear…

I am Carina Williams from Scentre Group. Our recruitment team viewed your resume published on Indeed and we are pleased with your qualifications, we believe you have the required qualifications to undergo an online interview. Your resume was shortlisted for an online interview with the personnel manager Mrs. Claudia Goodwater for the position of Data Entry. Let me know if you are ready to proceed with the online interview and briefing process.

I think I’ll just pass on this job opportunity. So glad I searched the internet before responding to this text.

I was contacted by email and told to Skype a Janine Frew. She woke me and my husband up at 6:30AM by Skype call. She asked scripted questions and did not respond to any of my questions. She said I have to start tomorrow without any two weeks notice. Then she said who is the employer here? She said to let her know when I’m interested, and I said I’ll let her know if I’m interested. I even flat out said this was a scam, and she said that’s my opinion.

Sheena – Nov 17, 2020

Said there was an opening at location in my area, but after checking I found the company is located in Australia/New Zealand = First red flag
Punctuation and spacing was formatted really weird, much like a SPAM email = 2nd red flag
Gabriella Newman who stated she was with this company even though he/she is really a shady recruiter had 0 online presence = 3rd red flag
Wanted me to install Telegram to do an interview, why would we need encrypted messaging software unless we were stealing information? = 4th red flag
Wanted me to message @Davidscentre001 to get in touch with Mr David Schwenzer. Sounds incredibly made up.
They stopped responding only after asking a few questions.

Was contacted by James Brian: Hello, I am James Brian from Scentre Group. We are very pleased with your listed qualifications and would like to conduct an online interview. Would you like to proceed ? I was then told: This is strictly a Work from home, the pay is $18.56/Hr. Position: Administrative Assistant. Working hours are flexible as a Full Time employee, would you like to proceed ? I was then told to download Telegram to conduct an online interview with David King. I was pretty excited, because I did my research(I thought), and everything I found said that the company was legit, and it had good reviews. Looking back, I guess they were artificial/fake reviews from the company. Anyway, I received a contract from Bill Hunt, which I read and reread several times to see if I could find anything untoward. Feeling fairly confident that this was a legitimate job opportunity, I decided to go with it, and signed/submitted the contract. I was then told by David King that I would be sent a company laptop, as well as a check from the company to purchase the required software. Sounded slightly off to me, but I still decided to go with it. I received the check to day, and was very surprised to see that the amount was almost $3000.00. Not sure what software I am going to be buying with that kind of money! Anyway, in attempting to deposit the check, I was told by my bank that it was a fraudulent check. Being pretty disappointed, obviously, I contacted David King, and explained the situation to him: ‘The bank said that the check might be fraudulent. Is there a reason why?’ He immediately indignantly responds back with: ‘Might ? It is not!’. When I told him that the bank declared the check invalid, he said for me to ‘Hold While I contact accounting’. I asked him some time later if he had contacted accounting yet and worked out the issue, he simply said ‘Not yet’. Sounds like a scam if I ever heard of one. I would advise staying away from this company. It doesn’t make sense why they would spend their own money and time on me, just to send me an invalid check, when they haven’t gotten anything from me, but my time is more important than money, so, thank you Mr. Brian, Mr. Hunt, and Mr. King for wasting my time.

Just happened to me earlier today. Shame I actually would love this job too bad it isn’t a real listing and same phone #.

Ana – Sep 24, 2020

This is the Phone Number they used: +1 (669) 228-2653

Ian – Sep 21, 2020

Yes, just happened to me. I checked with the BBB after I couldn’t get a solid address to mail my “employment papers” nor would the hiring manager “Peter Brian” pronounce the company for me since there was NO face time or phone call. I just told him to keep his counterfeit check and fake job and he deleted all the chat from Telegram. Diana Smith is another name I got.

Caitlin – Sep 14, 2020

Huge Scam. Yes same thing happened to me. All through Telegram. Contacted by David King and Bill Hill. Paperwork sent seems like it could be legit as it states they are from Canada. Beware of these scammers.
Asked for Account number and routing number. Told them it was a Chime account and tried to say it was a prepaid account and they did not accept this account. First clue as this is not a prepaid account.
Also thank told me that they were making a deposit into my account and that I would see it today. David King contacted me at 9:33 am today 9/14/20. I asked him if he was removing money from my account. He replied no and then I let hime know he was a scam and has not responded since.

Initial means of contact Text message

Text message came in at 1:19pm:

“Hello, I am James Brian from Scentre Group. We are very pleased with your listed qualifications and would like to conduct an online interview. Would you like to proceed?”

Thank you to those who’ve posted about this, and some who have unfortunately learned this less on the hard way. I wish you the best.

Heidi – Aug 06, 2020

I Received a text message from John Phillip from Scentre Group about a job opportunity. The message read : We are pleased with your listed qualifications and would like to conduct an online interview on telegram. He gave me the id @Richardjoseph205 and asked to send a verification code i.e AG-T4018. I sent the verification code to this id and then the question and answer round started. This person took my interview for 50 minutes on telegram and offered me a role of data entry clerk. He said since its a work from home job so he will send me a check for buying the working materials like laptop and some softwares. Next day I received the check and he asked me do deposit it via mobile banking which I did. He said the check should get deposited in the account by tomorrow and then he will instruct me further about buying the working material. Later I did some more research and realized its a scam. I immediately tried to login to my bank account to see if the check has been deposited or to find ways to stop it but it was too late. My bank had already locked my account because of this counterfeit check. I spoke to the bank and narrated the entire story. Next day I visited my Bank and they told me that they have to close my account as I have been a victim of fraud. I am just fortunate enough that I did not pay anything to this scammer but unfortunately my bank account got closed.
I messaged this scammer about his counterfeit check as he had sent me another check and was asking me to deposit that as well. I warned him not to bother me again. He disappeared after reading my message and deleted the chat history ( I had already taken the screenshot of our chat)
Guys, please be very very careful. Its a big scam in the name of Scentre Group. Some people have already lost money to these scammers.. If you get approached by anybody for an interview via hangouts, telegram, do not entertain them at all.

Charles – Jul 06, 2020

I received a text from Henry Townsend from Scentre Group saying “We are very pleased with your lsited qualifications and would like to conduct an online interview, Would you like to proceed?” I found “Would you like to proceed” as strange verbage. I checked the internet for Scentre Group and found it is an Australian company. I texted back asking saying I did not find the company in the internet and asking about the position I am supposed to be interviewing for. Mr Townsend replied back “Scentre Group is a real estate company located in Australia and New Zealand, currently expanding into the United States. This is strictly a Work form home, the pay is $18.56/hr. Position: Customer Care Representative. Working hours are flexible as a Full Time employee. would you like to proceed?”. I went to Scentre Group offical pngage and in the Careers page is said “Scentre Group advertises roles on our website, Seek and LinkedIn for roles exclusively based in Australia and New Zealand. Occasionally, we may advertise roles on other diverse platforms, however, all email communication is from a scentregroup.com email address. If you are contacted and directed outside of these channels regarding employment opportunities, we encourage you not to disclose any personal information. If you receive any suspicious emails regarding employment with Scentre Group, please forward them to: [email protected]“. As per above note this seems to be a scam.

Via text interested in an interview to discuss job for a resume I posted on workintexas.com . Did a Skype chat (not video) for over an hour as their response seemed always to be delayed. Then sent an email to sign onto Goodle Hangouts for an interview/briefing with Head of Operations. I cut that off when he wouldn’t tell me where job was located exactly- said it was a security risk to tell because it was a new location .

Maybe it was the picture of Steve Carrell from the Office that gave it away, or the grammatical/spelling errors, or maybe just how fast they ‘APPROVED MY RESUME” (I don’t know any organization that uses all caps when hiring.
Generic emails too seem rather suspect.
I did some digging and while people like Phil McAveety exist (on the internet), I highly doubt that he would have such generic emails.
If anyone comes into contact with him or knows him, perhaps it would be prudent to let people know that he is being impersonated online.

Miguel – Apr 23, 2020

Was just contacted by two different individuals at “Scentre Group of Company” one by email, another by text… The name alone was alarming, but I did just upload my resume the day before they, each, contacted me for a choice of 4 jobs. I had to set up Hangouts first and not contact the other person who originally emailed me. The “interviewer” seemed very rushed to have me answer his questions, but took forever to respond in most cases. Or totally missed my questions altogether.
He said they’d send me a check for $2000, but it would be $500 of my own if I did it upfront. MYOB, Peachtree accounting, Quick books Pro, a time tracker, and another app was what he suggested, along with another laptop computer. Even without the new laptop those programs don’t cost $500. Upon my them not tallying with my bank, I agreed to open a credit union account. I was “welcomed to the company” They sent the offer letter and requested that I buy the needed software from their vendor ASAP. The offer letter was poorly formatted and had a prefilled date of 10/20/2020 on the agreement page. Once I told him that the signing of the letter and account had been opened. He asked if I could afford $200 for software upgrades which will be paid back to me with my first paycheck. I can, but the question is why tell me at the last minute that a 40% cash “upgrade” is needed?
The website at the footer of the “offer letter” only shows Australia and New Zealand positions- however there are none at this time and the emails are from a gmail account. [email protected] is the email account. The number that was texting me began with a USA area code of 347. I’ve emailed Human resources and corporate affairs (from the contact us page)[email protected] and also [email protected]

I have been contacted the same way everyone else was contacted, everyone please be careful with what you do and provide. I’m sitting here looking like a whole fool thinking this was legit and somehow my inexperienced [censored] got this too good to be true of a job. False! I tell you. The lady who texted me showed on my iPhone as it could be Mellisa Pearson. Do not reply back, Scentre Group only employ from Australia or New Zeland and at that the pngage shows that they only show applications on their own website or Linkedin.

Received a text/email about a work at home opportunity. Since I’ve been looking for something like this I responded. (stupid mistake). They made everything sound good like paid vacations, sick days, personal days, great benefits, flexible hours, etc.. Then said I would be receiving a check to cover the working materials. I was to deposit the check, buy 3 money orders and send them to the vendor so the materials could be programmed and shipped to me. Mistake was I did it, knowing better, because a person is not supposed to pay for any materials, fees or anything to a company for a job. This person was very convincing and said everything was good. Now I’m going through the process of getting my money back, reporting this to the ScamPulse.com and police.

The scammer emailed me from what first appeared to be a Scentre Group email address. They then asked me to add their hiring manager, Claire Larocca, on Google Hangouts and schedule a chat with her. The interview was obviously conducted by a bot, and I was offered the job too easily. Then then started asking about how I want to be paid, and what bank I use. I knew then that it was a scam.

Two recruiters reached out to me about an opportunity to work for the company scentre group which is a legitimate company. After I told them I was interested they sent me over to what called their HR manager and she interviewed me via email she gave me a whole background on the company, and the responsibilities of the position. Afterwards she went as far as sending me a check in order to get the working materials in order to work from home. When I deposited the check into my account I did not see it appear on my statement. Then they told me to send some money and just deduct it from the check they sent me once the money was available. But later on my bank informed me that the check was a fraudulent check that’s when I realized that it was a scam. I went back on LinkedIn to contact the recruiters who initially approached me and they both deleted their accounts.
