Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
About 5 days ago,I received a DM on Twitter informing me that through “random draw”, I had won a prize of $500,000. Immediately, scam came to mind, but I decided to play it out a bit to see what he would say. The subject turned to “you have a short time to claim this prize or it will be given away.” Shortly after that ,I received 3 phone calls which were illegible…I couldn’t hear anything said. The first request was for my bank number. Nope, that didn’t happen. The next request for money came shortly afterwards, requesting I wire money/fees to The Lottery itself and pay upfront “expensive” shipping fees (for a check?) as well as taxes and business expenses. I was also told if I shared this information to anyone I would lose my prize money. I played their game for awhile, repeatedly telling them “no, I will not pay funds to a company giving away $500,000. He has persisted for almost two weeks now. ‘This man is extremely persistent, becoming more and more insistent that I pay fees or lose the prize (I am enclosing a copy of the first note I received with the name blacked out.) should you wish his user name or more about his notes to me, please feel free to contact me. These people need to be stopped.
