First, of all I must set the stage for the call. Currently, I am behind on my mortage and recently entered into a payment plan with Rushmore Morgage. On Wednesday, October 15 I had two calls on my answering machine saying they were from Rushmore and that it would be in my best interest to contact them right away to prevent my home from going into foreclosure. It was Wednesday night when I hear the voice message and immediately panic because I didn’t understand why they had changed their mind about ana arrangement that was previously made. The callers was a women with a heavy foreign accent. I called even though it was after office hours and left a message. On Thursday, October 16th I called the office again and this time a man answered the phone. I told him that I had received a call from Lynn, he asked me my property address and repeated to me as I was saying it to him. There was a lot of noise in the background (sounded like a call center) which made it difficult for me to hear and the heavy accent made it even more challenging to understand. The man identified himself as Calvin White from the Lending Dept. He told me that I was behind on my escrow account and had to made a payment before October 31st in order to keep my account from going into foreclosure. I told him that I was on a payment plan and he said that because of me being behind on my escrow that the payment plan had been put on hold. In order to move forward I need to pay $1,022.10 on or before October 30th and then the repayment plan would be reinstated and my payments would go down. He told me that my account had been moved from the Loss Migitation Dept to this Dept and that I should speak only to him. I ask if he could take a payment over the phone via my checking account and he said that the would, but I need to make sure that payment is in before October 31st. I told him that I had already made my payment for October so he said not to make my November payment since I was paying my past due escrow balance. At the time of payment he was going to let me know when the next payment would be due and what the amount would be. During the conversation it just seemed suspect to me that why I kept saying I didn’t understand why they would make a repayment plan and cancel it. I did contact Rushmore Mortage and explained everything to them and they confirm my suspicion that it was a SCAM. They reassured me that they would not cancel a repayment plan without reason and would not call pressuring a customer to make a payment on something that had not been previously discussed. I’m glad GOD had me the spirit to discern when things are not what they appear to be. I reported this so no one else would be taken advantage of by these individuals.
