Type of a scam Debt Collections
The caller called my parents home two days leaving a message on the answering machine stating that I needed to contact them regarding a legal issue. I called them off of my cellphone after the third time of my parents receiving the call. When I called, a caller who identified herself as Veronica, stated she was trying to collect on a unpaid loan that I took out back in 2013 when I was working at my old job. But she also stated that they had up to 6 years to try and collect. So I asked what was the name of the company that I owed. She couldn’t tell me exactly what company but she named some they work for. The caller also knew my old address, one of my email addresses, and the last 3 digits of my social. I mentioned to the caller that I had been scammed before and didn’t wanted to be taken. I was reassured that it was a scam. The amount I owed on the loan was for 490 but they claimed I paid partially and only need to pay 290. She wanted to take payment that day but I told her that I couldn’t pay until two later dates. She accepted and asked for my debit card information. Didn’t give her my information but did provide her with a prepaid Visa card number. Was suppose to receive paperwork via email and never did.
