Type of a scam Tech Support
My brother, Joe Mason, who is not very experienced on the internet or with technology, purchased an I Phone and I Pad. He could not remember his pass code for his email.
He found an ad on the internet – for "Google Support" – 1-855-791-4041 and called it. I was not there when he spoke to them. I came home after he was done and found out he had been scammed.
The representative asked to get into his computer. He let them on it, unknowingly that they were a scam.
They locked up his computer and told him he had to pay $200 to fix it. He thought he was calling "Google" for support.
When I looked up the phone number on the internet – I saw "Rogers Email Recovery Support"
I found an App installed called "Assist Mobile Tech Support" and removed it for him. We were able to restore his computer with instructions from a computer expert in town…who had given my Mom instructions on what to do if anyone hacks her computer.
I am filing this complaint on his behalf.
