I was desperately looking on Craigslist for a room to rent in the LA area, because is more closer to my work. So I this person tells me to create a Roomster account because supposedly is more legit to apply there. So once I did, the person found me on Instagram under the username of @donna_sunshine10 and gives me all the details about the rent, and lease in the good area of Mid-Wilshire, which I thought it was legit because she followed me through Instagram and she had pictures of herself which now I believe it’s a fake account after learning my lesson. So then she tells me to send out the whole amount through Venmo or Cashapp which I stupidly did, and the only thing I liked about her, she kept in contact with me through IG and thought she was serious about me renting out the her property, because she kept asking me everyday when ‘am I gonna check out the place. So when the day came when I was free to checkout the place, I tell her “I’m on my way” she got excited that I was finally gonna meet her, so as soon as I arrived to the apartments, I’ve told her “I’m outside” waiting and I was wondering why she hasn’t replied? So as soon as I check my Instagram, turns out she had blocked me everywhere including her Venmo account. I felt my stomach dropped I want it to shed tears, and told myself “I can’t believe this happened to me!!” and not only because she stole $500 from me, because I drove 30 minutes away from where I live, and wasted my time for nothing. I did end up reporting it to my local law-enforcement including to FTC, FBI and Venmo. Luckily I got my money back the next 2 days by reporting it to my bank the next day. I also saved all the links by sending them to myself, and took screenshots of the Fraudulent right before she’d blocked me and that’s how I was able to report everything. It was one of the most horrifying and humiliating thing I’d ever experienced in my life, but I have to look at the bright side: I got my money back, and there’s a chance I might save someone from becoming the next victim, which I would never wish for someone to go through this, the way I went through…
