Rental Fast

April – Apr 15, 2020

Victim Location 46802

Type of a scam Rental

Rental advertised on Facebook for an extremely low price. Lower than reasonable. Attached the email thread below. **** ******* **** * ****** ***** *** ** ******* ********* What was most telling is that the email received is word for word, the same email received in November 2019 when looking at a similar property for rent in Fort Wayne for a very low price. At that point, they used the email [email protected] This was the same scam then as the property for rent was not actually theirs to rent. It was truly a property for sale by someone with a completely different name. Classic Rental Scam. This group needs to be stopped and reported to the FTC, and Indiana AG’s office.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting me confirming your interest in my house. My house is Available for Rent and Move in ASAP, I also have available the RENT TO OWN Option, Pets are ALLOWED as long as they are not destructive. I relocated from my Home 2 Months ago when I got a better job out of state. I’m giving the rent out low because I just need someone to help take care of the house while I’m away, It’s not about the money. It’s about finding someone that will take care of the house like they own it as I plan on staying here for a while.

My house is on 2302 Wawonaissa Trl, Fort Wayne, IN 46809 & It’s available for rent at $500/Per Month. The average monthly utility bill costs about $135.31 including Heating, Garbage, Trash disposal, Telephone Service, Electricity, Water, Gas, and Cable & Internet. There is also a REFUNDABLE Security Deposit of $500 set aside for damages/commitment.

Please note that I would not be available to do a one-on-one showing because I work multiple jobs and have also had some additional obligations to take care of since my father passed away a month ago – it’s been a very busy time. I understand the normal rental process should be done in person, I also would have loved that but it’s quite unfortunate I won’t be available at all to show the house because of my busy schedule here at work and I have quite an extended family to take-care of. I do not want to involve any 3rd party because I want a good Landlord-Tenant relationship I also have other applicants but pending that time you can take a drive by monitoring the surroundings and neighborhood and also look through the windows to see the interiors of the house, it’s currently available for move in.

Kindly ignore the for sale sign in the yard, as my initial plan was to sell the house before I changed my mind to rent it out after falling out with profit-seeking realtors. I have not had the time to be in town to get the for sale sign off since the decision to rent rather than sell. Do get back to me if you are willing to get started with the Application/Rental process. I look forward to hearing back.

Thanks,

Daniel
