Total money lost $2,300

Type of a scam Online Purchase

The Museum was contacted online by a "Ralph Lauren" from North Carolina who said he wanted to buy art from us for his wife’s birthday. After selecting the art on line, he mailed us a check for $3950, rather than the $1500 that the art cost, saying the overage was for shipping fees, but that they included shipping fees other than ours. I e-mailed him that I would give a check for the overage to the person who picked up the art, and deposited his check in our bank account. He replied that no, he wanted us to send money orders in the amount of $2300 for the overage to

Brenda Lee Harlan, 7408 Cedar St. Apt. 104, Omaha, Nebraska, 68124

As soon as I had done this, he stopped payment on the $3950 check, and asked me for information about the money orders that indicated he would try to say they were lost and get the post office to reimburse him. I sent nothing.
