Type of a scam Advance Fee Loan
I received a text msg that I had been pre-approved for a loan in the amount of $5000. When I called the number, the person who answered did not identify the company, her English was broken and I had a hard time understanding her. Once we got past the language barrier she gave me the terms of the loan…with a monthly payment that was ridiculously low (first clue that something wasn’t right). She then wanted me to wire a good faith payment in the amount of $202, just to prove that I was planning on paying the loan back. She instructed me to call her when I got to Western Union and to keep her on the phone. What is scary is that they pulled my information from a legitimate loan application I had completed on a secure site…they knew where I worked, how much I made and where I banked.
