when trying to update Garmin gps the website was the connection that came up tried to escalate technical support. took control of computer and told me I had foreign ip addresses that were causing the inability to update garmin. I became suspicious and disconnected.

The caller, claiming to be from Prime Technology LLC, told my mom that her computer was being hacked people in Nigeria. The caller said he would put a firewall up to protect her computer. At first, he said it would cost $699. My mom said she couldn’t afford that much so he lowered the cost to $499 and eventually $199.99 which she agreed to pay. The caller said they couldn’t take credit card but asked that she mail a check to Greenwood, South Carolina. She mailed a check.
