Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
This is a scam! I received a call from (203) 361-0643 (which appears as Bridgeport, CT) with a prerecorded message stating I had earned a $100 gift card through a shopping survey program. After pressing 1 to receive the reward, a live person (who identified himself as Leo Lopez) confirmed my name and asked for my address to send the gift card. He said he would not need further information other than my address and confirmed the gift . Once I provided my address, he stated there was a $4.99 shipping and activation fee for the gift card and asked for a credit card number. He assured me several times their company was affiliated with the ScamPulse.com and the transaction was covered by the Consumer Fraud Protection Act, so even though the transaction was completely legitimate, the credit card company would cover any losses in the event of an issue. I did not provide further information and questioned the legitimacy of any reward that required payment. I asked him to provide his name (he provided Leo Lopez), the name of their company (he provided Platinum Rewards Department), the phone number associated with their company (he provided 888-608-4680), and their location (he provided Sacramento, CA). I told him I was not interested and to delete any information they had related to my "reward"; he was insistent that the gift card could be used at over 800 retailers including Target, Walmart, gas stations, etc. and went into great detail about the types of things that could be bought with it in an effort to change my mind. I ended the call without providing any additional information and reiterated my request to remove me from their list.
