Type of a scam Tech Support

My mom received a call that her computer was going to crash. They could provide lifetime technical support but insisted a paper check was the only way they could get paid. They gave an address from Gary, IN but were calling from Phoenix, AZ. They said a decision had to be made right now for the lifetime technical support. They gained access to the laptop and all they did was put a shortcut on the desktop that was already on the laptop.

The scammer claiming to be named "Sunny Willis" claimed that my computer was going to crash. He used Go Assist to get into my computer. He claimed if I sent $448 to an address in Gary, IN that I could have lifetime tech support. The guy claimed he needed an answer now if I wanted his tech service. I felt foolish falling for it. They sent me an email with the address to send a paper check to and what services they would supposedly provide to me. They said I had to make the check out to Robert Miller Inc, but the name of the supposed business is PC Complaints–makes no sense. The address in Gary, IN is a house and not a place of business when you Google the address. Luckily, I have a son-in-law that’s a computer tech and he didn’t find anything on my computer afterwards except a shortcut to an app I already had on my computer.
