Type of a scam Online Purchase

My parents were looking for a dog online for my little brother as a birthday and Christmas gift. After doing some research they found this online website that looked incredibly legitimate and proceeded to have email contact from there asking several questions of my parents about being dog owners before they agreed to move forward to make sure the dog was going to a good home. They then even spoke to my parents on the phone at my parents request. After asking for half of the money they would set up transportation. Everything seemed like it was proceeding in the correct way and even received additional pictures of the puppy, nd then the transportation company contacted my parents and proceeded to tell them the puppy did not have the correct crate and they needed to send them 780 dollars and that if they didn’t send it, they would sue them for abandoning the dog and send someone to their house to get the money. My parents tried several times to contact the sellers and they did not respond. They finally told the transportation company they would call the police if someone came to their home and would not be sending more money, since my husband and I had read about this part of scamming on the internet. The company quickly backed down and said good luck and hung up on my parents.
