Type of a scam Tech Support
In 2016, my computer locked up with a message to call Microsoft & gave a #. I called it, they answered as Microsoft, very professional, & said that I had several viruses detected by them in my computer. They said it could be fixed & that another sub-company did their tech work & they transferred me. The new company was called Papa Direct. I stupidly gave them access to my computer & they checked it out, then told me for the fee of $250, they could fix my computer & install some spyware, adware, etc., to help prevent future problems. I finally agreed. After the call was over, I quickly realized that everything they "installed" was free stuff anyone can download, so I knew it was a scam. I immediately contacted my bank, they did a fraud investigation & I was refunded. To this day, today, Papa Direct is still calling me. As a matter fact almost right after the alleged ScamPulse.com call. I ignored them as I have all their calls blocked. I have reported them to the phone company & anyone else I could think of. I am also now getting calls from a company called itech4, which is the same company, different name. The tech from this call gave me a CLSID# & wanted me to check it out & verify it. I verified it was the same #, but not to him. I said I couldn’t find it. He then walked me through how to find it & said it was still open. I played along but never admitted I found it, telling him to give me the info incase we got disconnected. He then directed me to the above website, supposedly to fill out the refund form. From there he wanted me to click on a black button & he said it would bring up a file named Team Viewer. Now I told him that I was absolutely not giving him access to my computer. He tried arguing that I wouldn’t be able to get my refund. I politely told him that I would research his info, then call ScamPulse.com myself & hung up.
I tried to get as much info as possible so that maybe someone else would be able to avoid this headache.
