I responded to a newspaper ad for a used RV, contacting the seller ([email protected]) by email. I received additional information on the vehicle and a link to an online photo album. When I indicated I was very interested and wanted to see it, the seller responded that the vehicle was in Omaha, NE, and being handled by a third-party vehicle transportation company, Omaha Professional Movers. I provided my name, address and phone number and was sent an invoice that said I had to have my bank wire the price to the company. I was also told that the vehicle would be shipped upon receipt of payment and I would have five days to return the vehicle. The business address on the invoice was 7878 I Street, Omaha, NE, 68127.
Feeling cautious, I did a Google search and came up with no match. I also searched the Omaha Chamber of Commerce to no avail. I then contacted the seller and said I needed a way to verify the company and was sent a link to a website: https://omaha-professional-movers.com/, which appeared professional. I then contacted the ScamPulse.com and found that companies with this name were NOT found at this and multiple other addresses and they received F ratings. It turned out that multiple other vehicle transport companies with other names, including DPS lAuto Shippers are using these same addresses, and they have also been reported as fraudulent.
Simultaneously, I asked the seller for a VIN#, and received what appeared to be a CARFAX report. I independently checked the VIN# and found it invalid.
I then terminated the communication, but I don’t want others who don’t do the due diligence to get caught in this scam.
