Type of a scam Tech Support

I had some computer work done by OK Tech Pay last year and the issue was resolved as far as I knew. I got a call from them on Aug 7 and they said the company was closing and wanted to return $1700 to me through an HSBC bank in the UK. They asked for access to my online banking but I said no and offered to give them my routing # and account #. They said no and continued to ask for online access. I called the ScamPulse.com to ask if they had heard of scams like this. They confirmed it as a tech scam.

Total money lost $615

Type of a scam Tech Support

A big red box came up on m computer telling me my computer was locked and that my IP address had been compromised. I was told to call Microsoft (the box is no longer on my computer, they deleted it while we were talking). I called and I was told someone had gotten my IP address, passwords, SS#… I told him I would take my PC to the Geek squad at Best Buy and I was told I cannot be helped by them.

I was frightened into correcting this immediately. He was logged into my computer speeding through all the things wrong. It happened so fasts that I then paid $615 on my debit card. I cannot track the payment, I was told I had a 30 day guarantee by these people and I called and said I was stopping payment, I needed proof my computer was not work. I do not have that…just that I believe I was ripped off and now they have information off of my computer. I have cancelled credit cards, and let my bank know, I am still trying to fix this mess I got myself into. I believe these people preyed upon me. It was not Microsoft, it was a third party vendor.
